Governor's School 2017
What is Governor’s School? It’s an exciting educational experience for academically, intellectually and artistically gifted high school students which lasts for five weeks in the summer. The cost to attend is $500.00 for the entire five weeks. Wake County Schools will pay $250.00 so the cost to the student would also be $250. Areas of study include English, mathematics, natural science, social science, French, Spanish, dance, choral music, instrumental music, visual art and drama. The academic programs are limited to current juniors (11th grade), however 10th and 11th graders will be considered for the performing arts programs.
Who can go? Students who are nominated or who ask to be considered are evaluated based on GPA, Rank, test scores, and the student’s application. Wake County Public Schools reads all of the student applications and essays and chooses its nominees who will be sent to the state selection committee. All students must have high (92 percentile) achievement test scores or they cannot be nominated by Crossroads FLEX. There are strict guidelines to follow.
Governor’s School interest meetings will be held Monday, October 3rd at 10:00 a.m. in Collaborative Room 1, and Tuesday, October 4 at 2:00 p.m. in Collaborative Room 1. Students may attend either session. If you are interested in applying for Governor’s School, you must attend one of the two scheduled sessions. If you have any questions, stop by to see Ms. Sharpe.
